Recess is Canceled is the seventh episode of the fourth season of Recess which was first broadcast on September 22, 1999.
Synopsis
The Government officially cancels recess as part of an experiment, but it begins to go wrong when the kids become tired, bored and behave in a drone-like manner. Even the staff themselves (including Principal Prickly and Ms. Finster) find themselves to be very bored during the cancellation of recess. The students' test scores go up, and so does productivity, but soon the scores go down again. The Secretary of Schools then decides to reinstitute recess (as well as treating it as a new program, called R.E.C.E.S.S. (reck-is).) The students go outside, and their drone-like behavior disappears.
Trivia
- The events of this episode later on lead-up to the events in the movie.
- This is one of the very few times where God is mentioned on a Disney television series (with Gus's line, "Was that...God?"), the other show God was mentioned was in 101 Dalmatians: The Series.
- In this episode it seems that without recess, the surroundings became nearly black and white.
- When Vince hands his test back to Agent Noble, it's already graded, when it shouldn't have been.
- This is the first episode to be colored with digital ink-and-paint instead of hand-drawn cels.
